United Capital Plc has confirmed the death of six of its staff members in the tragic fire incident that occurred at Afriland Towers, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

In a statement released on Monday via its official X handle, the company identified the deceased as Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Olumide Oyefodunrin, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.

Describing the loss as “immeasurable,” United Capital noted that the late employees were integral to the company’s operations and family.

“It is with profound grief that we announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers. Their painful loss leaves an immeasurable void,” the statement read.

The company extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, pledging continued support during the period of mourning. It also disclosed that preparations are underway for a memorial service to honour the lives of the departed.

United Capital further urged unity and solidarity among its workforce, stressing that the tragedy should inspire strength drawn from one another. It also commended emergency services and first responders for their swift intervention during the incident.

Afriland Towers, which houses the offices of the United Bank for Africa, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and United Capital Plc, was engulfed by smoke last Tuesday, forcing occupants to leap from upper floors in desperation.

The fire incident claimed at least 10 lives, including four personnel of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) who were on duty at the time.
