First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has stated that more than N20 billion has been collected thus far to support the completion of the National Library project in Abuja.
The First Lady made this announcement while speaking to State House reporters at the Presidential Villa, indicating that the initiative forms part of her celebration for her 65th birthday, which occurred on September 21, 2025.
Previously, she had encouraged well-wishers to transform birthday well-wishes and presents into contributions under the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund,” managed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Mrs. Tinubu clarified that she opted to dedicate her significant birthday to God and to a cause she considers profoundly meaningful rather than hosting an extravagant celebration. “The completion of the National Library will be a great birthday gift for me,” she stated.
Reflecting on her tenure as a senator, during which she was a member of the Senate Committee on Education, the First Lady expressed regret that the education ministry had been unable to advance the project, which has its origins in the Shehu Shagari administration.
She underscored the crucial role that libraries have played in shaping her early years and emphasized their importance in fostering the development of young Nigerians.
In response to criticism regarding her initiatives, Mrs. Tinubu encouraged individuals to embrace a spirit of service by following the advice of a former American President, who urged citizens to consider what they can contribute to their country rather than what their country can provide for them.
As reported, Nigerians have already contributed over N20 billion, with additional donations anticipated.
