IBADAN AIRPORT BACK IN OPERATION AFTER CLOSURE FOR MODERNISATION

Following a five-month closure for enhancements to meet international standards, Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, has welcomed its inaugural flight.

The aircraft, a sophisticated component of the presidential fleet, arrived at the airport precisely at 9:14 AM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in anticipation of its scheduled operation on Friday, September 26, 2025.

A communiqué from the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, indicated that the successful landing signifies the airport’s readiness to competently accommodate high-profile flights with utmost safety.

Olanrewaju remarked, “President Bola Tinubu is anticipated to arrive in Ibadan on Friday for the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“With the presidential flight set to follow shortly, this inaugural arrival since March 2025 establishes a favorable benchmark for forthcoming flights. ”

“Recall that in September 2024, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officiated the ground-breaking ceremony for the airport’s enhancement. ”

“During the event, Makinde expressed that the project, upon completion, would link the state to the global marketplace. ”

“The governor further emphasized, ‘The airport’s upgrade is projected to improve air travel operations and establish a dependable transportation network for both business and leisure travelers, positioning the state for economic advancement and progress. ’”

“Previously, the Makinde administration had refurbished the airport’s VIP lounge and supplied a fire truck. It also installed an aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility with a capacity of 500,000 liters. ”
