2025 BUDGET DELAY: TINUBU’S POLICIES ON TRACK – AGBESE

Read Time:2 Minute, 4 Second

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Rep. Philip Agbese, has refuted criticisms regarding delays in the execution of the 2025 budget.

Agbese praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to transparency and sustainable economic development.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, he expressed appreciation for the leadership of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

He characterized Bagudu’s work as meticulous coordination to align Nigeria’s economy with prevailing circumstances.

It is noteworthy that the 2025 budget, enacted in December 2024, allocated N4.91 trillion for defense, N4.06 trillion for infrastructure, N3.5 trillion for education, and N2.4 trillion for health.

Eight months into the fiscal period, delays in the capital segment have hindered projects, eliciting public dissatisfaction and demands for an extension into 2026.

Agbese, however, affirmed that the National Assembly has overseen the implementation and remains hopeful.

“Some see delays, but I see diligence and how Bagudu masterminds fiscal responsibility, verifying expenditures to align with global standards,” he stated.

He assured that the minister’s initiatives are facilitating a seamless implementation by late September, attributing significant reforms to Bagudu.

“Bagudu ensures our budget meets fiscal plans, addresses critical needs like infrastructure and healthcare, and builds a resilient future for generations,” he remarked.

The legislator highlighted Tinubu’s reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates, which he noted contributed to a 3.46 percent GDP increase in Q3 2024 and growing foreign reserves.

According to him, this demonstrates that “the government is delivering results, not rhetoric. ”

Agbese also criticized the U. S. Department of State’s 2025 Fiscal Transparency Report, which identified Nigeria for inadequate procurement practices, labeling it as outdated.

“Our Open Contracting Portal offers real-time bid access, and the Bureau of Public Procurement enforces strict tendering rules. Contract awards under Tinubu follow the Procurement Act and are open to global scrutiny,” he explained.

He added that Bagudu has empowered citizens to report irregularities, while legislative oversight guarantees accountability in budget implementation.

Agbese urged Nigerians to place their trust in the administration, assuring that visible progress would be evident by the end of the year.

“By December, expect roads, schools and hospitals to transform communities. With leaders like Bagudu, Nigerians will soon see tangible change; new infrastructure, better education and improved healthcare uplifting lives nationwide,” he concluded.
