Tragedy struck in the early hours of Wednesday when four members of a family were burnt to death in a fire outbreak at their residence located at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the fire was reported around 4:13 a.m. by one of the agency’s personnel, Abba Datti.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the ground-floor residential building measuring approximately 40 by 30 feet was already engulfed in flames. The fire destroyed two bedrooms, a parlour, a kitchen and a toilet.

According to the Fire Service, five occupants were trapped inside the house. Four were confirmed dead: 43-year-old father, Shodandi; his 30-year-old wife, Rafi’a; their 3-year-old daughter, Mardiya; and 1½-year-old daughter, Yusira.

A 12-year-old boy, identified as Aminu Shodandi, was rescued alive.

The agency expressed condolences to the affected family and warned residents to be extra cautious with fire-related materials, particularly during the harmattan season. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was likely caused by a mosquito coil that the family lit before sleeping.

This incident follows a recent fire outbreak at Kano’s popular Singer Market, which destroyed 29 shops and 19 stores.
