The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Thursday convened a high-level strategic conference with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to enhance national security ahead of the yuletide season.
During the meeting held at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP commended the dedication and sacrifice of senior officers in ensuring public safety across the country.
He issued fresh operational directives to all Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders, ordering them to: strengthen intelligence gathering; deepen community policing through increased citizen engagement; ensure lawful protection of vulnerable communities; and scale up visible policing through expanded deployment of personnel nationwide.
Egbetokun also confirmed the ongoing enforcement of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, describing the move as vital to improving general policing operations.
According to him, 11,566 police officers have so far been withdrawn from VIP security assignments, and will now be redeployed to bolster frontline security duties across the country.
The IGP reassured Nigerians of the Police Force’s firm resolve to safeguard lives and property.
“The Force will continue to intensify all necessary measures to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for every citizen, resident, or visitor to Nigeria,” he stated.
The conference comes amid heightened security concerns as the festive season approaches.
