Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in the Kano metropolis have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.

The tragic incident was reportedly discovered at about 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when the woman’s husband returned from work and found their home locked from the outside. Eyewitness accounts said he forced his way into the house, only to find the lifeless bodies of his wife and child. The victims were said to have been attacked and burnt by the assailants.

Confirming the incident, a community leader, Ahmad Sani, expressed deep concern over the persistent security challenges in the area, lamenting the lack of police presence despite residents’ efforts to enhance safety.

“For a long time, the community constructed a police outpost with its own resources, but the authorities are yet to deploy personnel to man the facility,” Sani said.

He appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, to urgently deploy officers to the outpost to strengthen security and forestall further attacks in the community.

When contacted on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident, saying the command had launched an investigation.

“Yes, it’s true the incident happened, but we are investigating the issue,” Haruna said.

The killings have sparked fear and outrage among residents, who are calling on security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and improve security in the area.
