The Sokoto State Police Command has announced the death of its Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Kabir Abdu, who passed away after a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command disclosed that the senior police officer died while receiving medical treatment at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, where he had been admitted since December 12, 2025.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmed Musa, described the late DCP as a highly dedicated, disciplined and selfless officer whose professionalism and commitment to duty made a significant impact on security and public safety in Sokoto State. The statement was signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai.

“DCP Kabir Abdu was an outstanding officer whose service left a lasting imprint on policing and security operations in the state,” Musa said.

On behalf of officers and men of the Sokoto State Police Command, the Commissioner extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, praying that Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give the bereaved family the strength to bear the loss.

The Command noted that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to honour the invaluable contributions of the late officer to peace, security and effective policing.

Abdu, a seasoned senior officer of the Nigeria Police Force, served for decades across various commands and operational units nationwide. Until his death, he was the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in Sokoto State, a strategic position responsible for coordinating security operations, crime prevention and tactical responses in one of the country’s most security-challenged regions.

His tenure coincided with sustained efforts by the Sokoto State Police Command to curb banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in parts of the North-West. Colleagues described him as firm, professional and disciplined, with a strong commitment to inter-agency collaboration and community engagement.

His passing comes amid ongoing concerns over personnel losses within the Nigeria Police Force due to illness, operational hazards and the growing demands of internal security across the country.
