Former Bayelsa senator John Kojo-Brambaifa has reportedly passed away. He represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District during the 5th National Assembly.

Reports indicate that the former senator passed away at the age of 81 at a hospital in Abuja on Saturday, January 3

The Media reports that Senator Brambaifa has been mourned by Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former federal lawmaker. Governor Diri described Brambaifa as an illustrious son of the state and praised him as an astute politician with a distinguished record of public service.

In part, his statement reads:

“Bayelsa and Nigeria have lost an elder statesman, amiable gentleman, astute politician and a great community leader.”

Governor Diri conveyed this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, extending condolences to the family of the late senator on behalf of himself and the people of Bayelsa State. The announcement comes less than a month after the passing of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the state’s deputy governor, whose death prompted a three-day mourning period. In a statement signed by Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, on Friday, December 12, the government described the deputy governor’s passing as occurring with “deep regret and profound shock.”
