The Benue State Police Command has arrested three individuals for alleged involvement in robbery and cult-related activities, just days after four suspected cultists were detained in Gboko Local Government Area following a violent clash that reportedly left two people dead.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet.

According to Edet, two of the suspects were apprehended on Monday in Vandeikya Local Government Area while allegedly attempting to rob residents of their possessions.

On January 5, 2026, at approximately 14:30 hours, the Divisional Police Officer of Vandeikya Division received credible intelligence that suspected armed robbers were operating in the area, reportedly in possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons.

A swift police response led to the arrest of two suspects during an operation in Vandeikya Local Government Area. The individuals, identified as Dominic Terkaa Peter, 30, and Sunday Tarvihi, 31, both from Ako-Fate, Ute, were taken into custody.

In a related operation later the same day, police in Guma Local Government Area apprehended a suspected cultist following intelligence that members of a cult group were planning attacks on rival factions and unsuspecting members of the public in the Udei area.

During the operation, Mnyam Ternenge, 21, of Udei, was arrested, while other suspects escaped. Items recovered from the suspects included a cutlass, knife, hard drugs, a locally made revolver, and a jackknife. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ternenge confessed to being a member of the MBS cult group.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Makurdi for further investigation, while efforts continue to apprehend those who fled.

Benue State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to eradicating cultism and criminal activities, calling on the public to provide timely and reliable information to strengthen security operations.
