Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed has reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that he remains loyal to the platform that nominated him as the vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 polls.

Baba-Ahmed, 56, served as the running mate of Peter Obi in the last presidential election, which Obi lost to Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the election, Obi left the Labour Party about two years later, joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which now serves as the base for a coalition aiming to challenge the ruling APC.

Speaking on Wednesday during a press briefing at the Labour Party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he has no intention of following Obi to the ADC.

The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna North, stated that he is prepared to offer himself for national service in 2027, with a focus on contributing to Nigeria’s recovery and development. He also expressed skepticism about the ADC, dismissing those behind the coalition as “disgruntled politicians.”
