GOVERNMENT EMPOWERS YOUTHS WITH LEADERSHIP SKILLS TRAINING

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has launched the seventh edition of the Ibile Youth Academy, a leadership training initiative for young people.

At the opening ceremony held on Monday at the Faculty of Education Conference Hall, Lagos State University, Ojo Campus, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to investing in youth development.

He emphasized that such investments generate long-term benefits that are immeasurable.

“Our philosophy for this programme is anchored on the belief that investing in young people yields immeasurable dividends, as they embody the innovation, energy, and leadership capacity necessary to drive sustainable development and effective governance,” Ogunlende stated.

He added, “Since its inception in 2017, the academy has focused on nurturing the values of citizenship, leadership, volunteerism, and community service, all of which are central to the THEMES Plus Agenda.”

In her welcome address, Permanent Secretary Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, represented by Abiodun Dina, Director of Administration and Human Resources, praised stakeholders for their continued support since the programme’s launch. She described the youth academy as a strategic investment in the future leadership of Lagos youths, aligned with the THEMES Plus Development Agenda, particularly its pillars of social inclusion, gender equality, and youth empowerment.

The seventh edition of the programme will be rolled out across the state’s five administrative divisions. Activities include divisional leadership training from February 9 to 13, 2026, a one-day leadership seminar and alumni launch on February 17, and a residential boot camp from February 22 to 28, 2026.

At the conclusion of the programme, one State Youth Ambassador and five Divisional Youth Ambassadors will be selected to implement community-based projects addressing local challenges in their respective areas.
