Sevilla coach Matias Almeyda received a seven-match ban on Wednesday following his red card during last weekend’s La Liga draw with Alaves.

After being sent off for protesting, the 52-year-old Argentine coach returned to the pitch at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium and argued with the referee for over a minute in an angry confrontation.

According to a statement from the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee, Almeyda was suspended for two matches for his protests, one match for failing to leave the field after being sent off, three matches for displaying “an attitude of contempt” toward officials, and an additional match for unsporting behavior.

Sevilla are 13th in La Liga, two points above the relegation zone with 14 matches remaining, with Almeyda suspended for half of those.
