An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced 40-year-old Yusuf Muhammed to six months in prison for conversion of funds and breach of peace.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, handed down the sentence after Muhammed pleaded guilty to the charge of fund conversion but denied the second count of breach of peace.
Babalogbon also ordered that the convict refund ₦240,000 to the complainant as part of the judgment. The convict, whose address was not disclosed, faced a two-count charge of fund conversion and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the offence occurred in November 2025 in the Lekeleke area of Ado-Ekiti.
Apata explained that Yusuf Muhammed sold provision items valued at ₦240,000 and misappropriated the proceeds for his personal use. The items belonged to Isia Abdullahi.
He added that the convict also behaved in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace. The complainant had entrusted Muhammed with his provision store while he traveled, but upon returning, the money was not remitted.
The prosecutor noted that the offence violates Section 295 and is punishable under Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
