The International Airlines Association of Nigeria is advocating for closer collaboration with the Federal Government on airport modernisation, passenger services, and safety improvements to enhance Nigeria’s aviation value chain.
Damilola Ogunseye, Chairman of the International Airlines Association of Nigeria (Airline Operators Committee), stated that the association is prepared to support the government’s aviation reform agenda and strengthen partnerships across key sectors of the industry.
Ogunseye said, “The International Airlines Association of Nigeria is fully aligned with the government’s initiatives, particularly in infrastructure development, aviation policy reforms, tourism promotion, cargo expansion, and human capital growth.
We see significant opportunities to work together on airport modernisation, passenger facilitation, safety improvements, and the overall enhancement of the aviation value chain.”
He noted that the aviation reforms enacted by the 9th National Assembly under the leadership of Femi Gbajabiamila had laid a strong foundation for sectoral transformation.
During the leadership of former Speaker of the House of Representatives Gbajabiamila, the National Assembly passed the New Aviation Act (2022), a set of reform laws that repealed outdated regulations and modernised Nigeria’s aviation sector. The legislation strengthened aviation safety and security, improved airport management, enhanced airspace control and meteorological services, and boosted aviation training and accident investigation frameworks.
Ogunseye said the reforms strengthened regulatory oversight, aligned Nigeria’s aviation framework with international standards, and enhanced efficiency, safety and service delivery across the industry.
He also praised the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance the country’s business environment.
“We commend your ongoing advocacy for policies that encourage ease of doing business, infrastructure development, and investor confidence—factors essential for the smooth operation of international airlines in Nigeria and for our shared goal of establishing Nigeria as a leading aviation hub in Africa,” Ogunseye said.
The IAAN chairman emphasized that international carriers remain committed to supporting Nigeria’s ambition to become a top aviation hub on the continent. “We are fully dedicated to collaborating closely with your office, relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance connectivity, attract foreign investment, promote tourism, and strengthen Nigeria’s standing in global air transport,” he stated.
He added that sustained cooperation between operators and government agencies would accelerate airport modernisation, improve passenger experience, raise safety standards, and unlock greater value throughout the aviation ecosystem.
