TRAGIC ILORIN–OGBOMOSO ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS PREGNANT WOMAN, FIVE NURSING STUDENTS

Six individuals, among them a pregnant woman and five final-year nursing students, lost their lives yesterday in a road accident along the Kwara stretch of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso highway.
The crash occurred in the Ote area of Kwara State. Some victims were declared dead at the scene, while others later died from their injuries at a hospital whose name was not disclosed.
Sources revealed that the students were 500-level undergraduates pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree through an Open and Distance Learning programme at a tertiary institution in Oyo State. They were said to be on their way to write their second semester examinations when the tragedy struck.
Confirming the development, the Kwara State Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Rosemary Alo, stated that the accident happened on the Kwara end of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso road in Ote.
She added that FRSC personnel were working with the Kwara State Command to ease traffic congestion caused by the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the crash had not been made public.
