Ondo State Police have arrested 10 suspected kidnappers and recovered ransom money from their victims in Akure, the state capital.
The Police Command’s spokesperson, Jimoh Abayomi, described the arrests as a “significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.”
Abayomi explained that the suspects were apprehended through a joint operation by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Section and visiting PMF personnel, deployed by the police headquarters to provide operational support. Acting on credible intelligence, officers swiftly moved to locations along Ondo Road, leading to the arrests.
He listed the suspects as Muritala Muhammed (22), Mustapha Adamu (20), Usman Ibrahim (25), Amisu Aruna (28), Asiru Abdulasis (20), Abduliu Sanni (22), Ibrahim Suraju (20), Noah Isiaku (20), Abdulahi Suraju (20), and Arabi Hamet (18).
“During the operation, the suspects’ operational motorcycles and ransom money were recovered. Some of the cash consisted of burnt currency notes, which are now being documented as exhibits for ongoing investigations,” Abayomi said.
He added that the suspects have made confessional statements detailing their roles in the syndicate, and all recovered exhibits are being processed for further investigation and necessary legal action.
“The Ondo State Police Command is committed to fully dismantling this syndicate and identifying any accomplices still at large,” he reassured residents.
Abayomi urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that community cooperation is essential in the fight against kidnapping and violent crimes.
