The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that the N100 million credited to Victor Egbetokun, son of outgoing Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, was a banking error and was promptly reversed.

The statement came in response to online reports claiming that the funds were drawn from the Anambra State Government’s security vote account.

Speaking with the media on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin explained that Victor himself reported the transaction and ensured the money was immediately returned.

“You may recall the claim that N100 million was credited to the IGP’s son’s account. I contacted him to verify, and he confirmed he noticed the deposit and instructed his accounts officer to reverse it, which was done,” Hundeyin said.

Victor also printed his bank statement to verify that the funds had been returned, and the account involved has since been closed. He has reportedly petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the allegations.

Hundeyin emphasized that the transaction was purely an error and that the funds were promptly restored to the state government’s account. He reiterated that no wrongdoing occurred, describing the incident as a mistaken payment.
