UD Almería has confirmed a significant change in its ownership, welcoming investment from football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a statement on Thursday, the club said, “Cristiano Ronaldo invests in UD Almería as part of the club ownership consortium led by SMC Group.”
The announcement detailed the scope of the investment and the structure of the deal, noting that Ronaldo has acquired a 25% stake in the club through his subsidiary, CR7 Sports.
The statement further explained the structure of the transaction and its wider implications.
According to the club, “Cristiano Ronaldo has acquired a 25% stake in UD Almería through CR7 Sports Investments, a subsidiary of CR7 S.A.
“This represents a major milestone in the ongoing growth of both the club and the Portuguese star’s investment portfolio.”
The move aligns with UD Almería’s broader strategic vision under its current leadership.
The club stated, “This agreement forms part of the club’s international expansion, led by President Mohamed Al Khereiji through his business holding, SMC Group.”
Club President Reacts
Club President Mohamed Al Khereiji personally welcomed the development, expressing his delight at the new investment.
“We are very pleased that Cristiano has chosen to invest in our club,” he said.
“He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to ever grace the game.
“He also has an in-depth knowledge of Spanish football and understands the potential of what we are building here, both in terms of the team and the academy,” the club said.
In his remarks, Cristiano Ronaldo shared the motivation behind his decision to invest.
The club quoted Cristiano Ronaldo as saying, “It has long been my ambition to contribute to football beyond the pitch. UD Almería is a Spanish club with solid foundations and significant growth potential.
“I look forward to working with the leadership team to support the next phase of the club’s development.”
Ronaldo’s Spanish Connections
At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo remains one of the most prominent figures in world football.
The Portuguese forward currently plays for Al Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia, continuing a career that has spanned over two decades at the highest level.
Ronaldo has strong ties to Spanish football from his nine-year tenure at Real Madrid CF, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer and won multiple domestic and European titles, according to PUNCH Online.
His history in Spain, along with his global profile and ongoing involvement in football, has kept him in the spotlight.
The Al Nassr forward has occasionally fueled media speculation about a possible return to Spanish football in some capacity—whether as a player, investor, or ambassador—particularly as he expands his business interests in the sport.
