The Lagos State Government has refuted claims that ₦4.2 billion was allocated in the 2026 budget for office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor.
The clarification follows reports by an online platform suggesting that the deputy governor’s office earmarked ₦4.2 billion for these items.
In a statement released on Friday by the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, the government described the reports as a “misrepresentation.”
“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to reports alleging that ₦4.2 billion was proposed in the 2026 budget for the purchase of office furniture and microphones for the Office of the Deputy Governor. This claim is inaccurate and stems from a misinterpretation of the approved capital provisions,” the statement read.
According to the ministry, the total capital allocation for the Deputy Governor’s office for 2026 is ₦4,247,816,006, which was wrongly presented as funding solely for office furniture and microphones.
Of this amount, ₦4,077,816,006 is designated for the reconstruction of the Round House complex—a six-storey building housing over 50 offices—including structural upgrades, retrofitting, and alternative energy installations.
The remaining ₦170,000,000 covers office equipment, furniture, fittings, and other capital items.
The government attached screenshots of the relevant budget master sheet for transparency and public verification.
Reaffirming its commitment to fiscal discipline, the state urged media outlets and stakeholders to verify such information through official channels to ensure accurate reporting.
The statement also expressed regret over any confusion arising from the budget classification and reiterated the government’s dedication to prudent management of public resources.
