Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has scored 28 goals in the Premier League, making him the second-highest scoring central defender in the league’s history, excluding penalties.

The only player ahead of Van Dijk in this record is former Chelsea captain John Terry, who notched 41 goals during his career, according to OptaJoe.

Van Dijk reached this milestone after scoring in Liverpool’s 5-2 Premier League victory over West Ham United on Saturday.

The 34-year-old defender aims to surpass Terry’s long-standing record in the near future.

Since joining Liverpool from Southampton in 2018, Van Dijk has been a key figure, helping the Reds win both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

He now looks to guide Liverpool, under manager Arne Slot, to victory when they face Wolves in their next Premier League clash on Tuesday.
