MOJTABA KHAMENEI ELECTED IRAN’S NEXT SUPREME LEADER UNDER IRGC PRESSURE

Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, an Iranian politician and cleric and the eldest son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been elected Iran’s next Supreme Leader by the country’s Assembly of Experts amid pressure from the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), according to The Media.
The reported selection of Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the next Supreme Leader of Iran comes after the confirmed death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who state and international sources say was killed in a joint U.S.–Israeli military strike on Tehran on February 28, 2026.
Iran’s Assembly of Experts an 88‑member clerical body constitutionally responsible for choosing the supreme leader is said to have made the decision amid significant influence from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Mojtaba Khamenei’s reported appointment represents a controversial shift in Iran’s leadership succession, as he has never held a major official position, and his rise would signal an unprecedented consolidation of power within the late Supreme Leader’s family. Reports indicate that the decision was strongly supported by the IRGC, which wields significant influence over Iran’s political and security affairs.
The appointment is yet to be officially confirmed.
