An Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure has ordered the arrest and detention of a traditional ruler, Oba Adewale Sunday Boboye, over alleged contempt of court linked to a land dispute.
The order followed allegations that the monarch forcefully entered a parcel of land belonging to Olrof Nigeria Ltd located along Igoba/Akure Road in Igoba and maliciously damaged the company’s property.
According to court documents in Charge No: MAK/AMC/486/2025, the suspect was earlier summoned to appear before the court after the charge was filed against him. However, he allegedly failed to honour the summons and was invited again penultimate Friday but still did not appear.
At the last sitting of the court, I.O. Osobu appeared as the prosecutor, while A.R. Omidougha represented the defendant. Kehinde Aladedutire appeared for the nominal complainant.
Senior Magistrate D.S. Sekoni subsequently invoked the provisions of Section 118 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Ondo State and ordered the suspect’s arrest. The directive was contained in a document obtained from the Chief Assistant Registrar, A.O. Akinola.
The suspect is currently being detained at the Zone 17 headquarters of the police in Akure. Sources further disclosed that he had previously been convicted of a similar offence.
The case has been adjourned to March 18, 2026, for his arraignment.
