The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has apprehended a former student prefect for allegedly trying to steal laboratory equipment from a school in Dutse.

NSCDC Jigawa State Command spokesperson, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to journalists on Thursday.

The suspect, Aliyu Musa, 22, was caught by NSCDC officers following complaints from school authorities about repeated thefts of laboratory equipment.

Tijjani stated, “The suspect, a former Labour Prefect of the school, was arrested while attempting to remove five microscopes from the school’s main laboratory.”

He added that preliminary investigations showed several laboratory items had already gone missing, including 10 conical flasks, 10 microscopes, and other equipment.

Tijjani said, “The prompt action of NSCDC operatives prevented further vandalism and theft of critical educational resources.”

The spokesperson emphasized that the corps would maintain a strong presence and enhance surveillance around schools to deter criminal activities.

He stated that the suspect has been charged with criminal trespass and theft and has been arraigned in court for prosecution.

Tijjani added, “We will not hesitate to bring offenders to justice.”
