A fire outbreak has destroyed sections of three residential buildings and an electricity transformer site in the Gaida area near Fatima Bread, within Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., following a distress call from resident Aminu Bello to the Emergency Response Unit.
Firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, along with teams from the Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were promptly dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our personnel found an open space measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, completely engulfed in flames,” the agency said in a statement.
The fire quickly spread to nearby structures, affecting three residential buildings of varying sizes. Witnesses described the situation as intense, with flames consuming parts of the buildings before emergency responders brought the situation under control.
Officials confirmed that the first building, a small residential structure, was severely affected, while the second building, a one storey building suffered extensive damage, particularly on the upper floor.
The third building, also a residential property, was similarly impacted by the blaze.
Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical spark.
Commenting on the incident, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to prioritize safety measures.
He stated, “We advise the public to take all necessary precautions to prevent fire incidents, particularly by avoiding unsafe electrical practices and ensuring the proper use of appliances.”
While no casualties have been reported, authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report emergencies without delay.
