Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced efforts to restore electricity supply to parts of Lagos following a major outage triggered by a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the company said the disruption was caused by a vehicle collision involving a stationary gas tanker.

The fire resulted in extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, affecting key conductors and overhead line infrastructure.

The statement read: “Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker.”

The fire caused extensive damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, affecting critical conductors and overhead line equipment, resulting in a disruption of electricity supply in the impacted areas.

The company said its technical team is working to replace the damaged components and restore power supply as quickly and safely as possible, while apologising for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

EKEDC listed the affected areas as Medallion Feeder (including Medallion Company), Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Container, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola and Onisan, all connected to the Ibeju 33kV feeder.

The outage follows a tragic gas explosion in the Ajah area of Lagos that claimed two lives and destroyed several properties, including warehouses and roadside shops.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Tera Ahmed bus stop in Sangotedo, after a collision between a gas tanker and a tipper truck.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain cautious as EKEDC technical teams continue repair efforts to safely restore electricity to homes and businesses.
