A Kano woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, who recently gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, has passed away.
Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, confirmed the news in a phone interview with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.
According to him, Yusuf died around 2:00 p.m. at the hospital after experiencing severe bleeding following the birth of the five children—three boys and two girls.
“She had been bleeding since the delivery, and despite all efforts by doctors to stabilise her, she could not be saved,” he said.
K/Na’isa added that the deceased was laid to rest according to Islamic rites at her home in Hotoro.
He also urged the public to assist the newborns by providing milk and other essential supplies.
“We are appealing to the public to assist the babies with milk and other necessities,” he said.

He, however, confirmed that the quintuplets are in stable condition and are currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
The tragedy occurred just 24 hours after the Kano State Government announced that it had taken responsibility for the medical care of the mother and her babies following their delivery.
In an earlier statement, the ministry noted that the quintuplets were delivered successfully and placed under special care along with their mother.
The deceased’s husband, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, expressed gratitude to the state government for its timely intervention.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing maternal and child healthcare services and reducing mortality rates across the state.
