The Nigerian Army on Thursday pulled out 18 senior officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport following their retirement after 35 years of meritorious service.
The colourful pulling-out parade marked the end of a three-day conference held in Benin City, with the theme focused on optimising supply and transport capabilities for effective service delivery in military operations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Corps Commander, Danjuma Shagaya, said the retired officers included four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals.
Shagaya noted that the officers served the nation with dedication from their commissioning through to retirement, describing the event as both a celebration and recognition of their contributions.
“It is a joyous moment for the Corps of Supply and Transport, as current and former Corps Commanders are present to honour and celebrate these distinguished officers,” he said.
He added that the pulling-out parade is a longstanding military tradition that provides an opportunity to celebrate years of sacrifice and service. He also commended the Chief of Army Staff for recognising the retirees’ contributions by sending a representative to the event.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Olaniyi Dare highlighted the critical role of the corps in sustaining military operations across various theatres.
“We were entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that soldiers deployed across various theatres of operation are adequately sustained,” he said.
Dare emphasised that the corps remained committed to providing reliable logistics support during training, peacekeeping missions, and internal security operations both within and outside Nigeria.
He assured that although the officers were transitioning into retirement, they would continue to uphold the values of the Nigerian Army and remain available to contribute their experience when needed.
The retired general also paid tribute to their families, acknowledging the sacrifices they made throughout their careers, noting that military life often involves long separations, constant movement, and personal challenges.
