Two men lost their lives in Kokami Village, Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State, following a dispute over garri (cassava flakes) and sachet water that escalated into violence.
The incident, which occurred on April 4, involved Ibrahim Auwal and a trader identified as Joe, also known as K.C. Jones.
According to reports, the altercation turned fatal when Jones allegedly stabbed Auwal at his shop. The victim was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was confirmed dead.
In the aftermath, a group of youths reportedly attacked Jones, killed him, and set his body ablaze along a nearby highway.
The Katsina State Police Command confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the mob action. Police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu stated that the suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing. He added that security operatives responded promptly to restore normalcy in the area.
Police Commissioner Ali Fage condemned the violence and urged people to “report disputes to security agencies rather than resort to mob action.”
The Katsina State Government also described the killings as deeply unfortunate and unacceptable.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Mu’azu, said: “No individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. All those involved will be brought to justice.”
He added that security personnel are patrolling the area to maintain peace.
