US Vice President JD Vance has warned Iran against attempting to “play” the United States as he embarks on an overseas trip for talks aimed at resolving tensions between both countries.

Vance, known for his cautious stance on foreign military involvement and opposition to prolonged conflicts, departed on Friday to lead mediated negotiations with Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital.

Speaking aboard Air Force Two en route to Pakistan, he expressed optimism about the outcome of the discussions, saying, “We are hopeful the negotiations will be productive, but we will see how things unfold.”

Referring to President Donald Trump, Vance added, “If Iran is willing to engage in genuine dialogue, we are ready to extend an open hand.”

He, however, issued a warning: “If they try to outmaneuver us, they will find that the negotiating team will not be easy to deal with.”

Vance also revealed that Trump had given “very clear instructions” on how the talks should be handled, though he declined to elaborate further.

The Vice President did not take questions from journalists traveling with him.
