The University of Ilorin has achieved a significant academic milestone, with 16 of its Law graduates earning First Class Honours in the latest Bar Final Examinations conducted by the Nigerian Law School.

In addition, 58 graduates from the institution secured Second Class Upper Division, highlighting the university’s continued strong performance.

This was disclosed by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, in a statement issued to journalists in Ilorin on Thursday.

He noted that this marks the highest number of First Class results ever recorded by the university’s Faculty of Law in the Bar Finals.

“This is the first time in the history of the university and its Faculty of Law that such a large number of graduates have achieved First Class in the Final Bar Examinations. The closest was in 2023, when 10 graduates attained the same feat,” he said.

Akogun attributed the achievement to ongoing improvements in academic standards and effective institutional leadership.

He added that the result reflects the impact of the Vice-Chancellor, Wahab Egbewole’s administration, which has focused on strengthening teaching and learning.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor described the outcome as a major milestone for both the Faculty of Law and the university as a whole.

“This is a moment of great pride not only for the Faculty of Law but for the entire university,” Egbewole said.

He emphasized that the institution has consistently upheld high academic standards and expressed confidence in the faculty’s ability to maintain its record of excellence.

“I have always expected the Faculty to achieve outstanding results, as it remains one of the leading Law faculties in Nigeria in terms of staffing, facilities, and service delivery,” he stated.

Egbewole, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and member of the Body of Benchers, said the results reflect the hard work, discipline, and resilience of the graduates, as well as the quality of education provided by the university.

“The achievement speaks not only to the students’ dedication and brilliance but also to the strong academic foundation and culture of excellence at the University,” he added.

He commended the 16 First Class graduates for their exceptional performance and also praised other students who passed at various levels.

Describing the outcome as a proud moment, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to sustaining high academic and professional standards.

He also urged the graduates to uphold the institution’s values and represent it well in their professional careers.

This accomplishment further strengthens the University of Ilorin’s reputation as a leading centre for legal education in Nigeria, known for producing top-performing graduates at the Nigerian Law School.
