GCI OLD BOYS CRUSH RISING STARS TO WIN LAGOS PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE

Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association Cricket Club produced a dominant display to win the 2026 Club Cricket Committee Lagos Premier League, defeating Rising Stars Cricket Club by 117 runs in the final on Sunday at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval, according to The Media.

After choosing to bat first, GCI Old Boys made full use of the opportunity, posting a strong total of 180 for 6 in their 20 overs, setting a challenging target for Rising Stars.

The innings was powered by Yellow Greens captain Sylvester Okpe, who delivered a standout performance with 86 runs from 46 balls, including nine boundaries and four sixes. He was well supported by Vincent Adewoye, who contributed a quickfire 55 off 32 deliveries, as both batters laid a solid foundation.

In reply, Rising Stars Cricket Club struggled to gain momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually being bowled out for 63 in 16.1 overs.

Chimezie Onwuzulike top-scored for Rising Stars with 14 runs, reflecting their difficult outing with the bat under pressure.

Okpe also made a major impact with the ball, taking four wickets to cap off a superb all-round performance that dismantled the opposition and secured victory for his side.

The emphatic win handed GCI Old Boys the CCC League title, ending Rising Stars’ reign and reinforcing their reputation as one of the leading teams in the competition, widely regarded as a key platform for cricket development in Nigeria.
