Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), operating under Sector 2, have reportedly killed no fewer than 24 terrorists.

In a statement, the Task Force’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the operation followed a determined attack by terrorists on Kukareta in the early hours of Thursday.

He explained that the assault began shortly after midnight and continued until about 3:00 a.m., but was met with a swift and coordinated response from alert troops. The soldiers launched a combined offensive and defensive action, successfully containing the attack and forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray.

During the encounter, the troops inflicted heavy losses on the attackers, with 24 terrorists confirmed killed so far.

He added that ongoing clearance operations at the scene have led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three RPG launchers, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and substantial quantities of 7.62mm ammunition for PKT systems.

Two personnel were wounded in action during the operation and have since been stabilised, while a reinforcing armoured tank also sustained damage after all its tyres were blown out during the exchange.

Exploitation operations are still ongoing, with troops combing withdrawal routes used by the terrorists, where blood trails and medical supplies have been discovered, in a bid to recover additional bodies and equipment.

The statement described the success of the operation as a demonstration of the resilience, combat readiness, and superior firepower of OPHK troops in denying terrorists freedom of action.

It added that operations would continue with sustained offensive pressure aimed at consolidating gains and decisively defeating all terrorist elements within the Joint Operations Area.
