DANIEL’S LOYALISTS REJECT ABIODUN’S ALLEGED OGUN EAST APC ENDORSEMENT

Loyalists of former Ogun State Governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, on Thursday rejected the reported endorsement of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun East senatorial election.
The group, operating under the Leaders of BATOGD Movement, argued that the alleged “Ogun East APC caucus meeting,” where Abiodun was said to have been endorsed, was orchestrated by his supporters to impose a predetermined outcome without following due party procedures on consensus building.
They alleged that participation in the meeting was restricted to loyalists of the governor, claiming that Daniel and his supporters were denied access to the Adeola Odutola Hall venue in Ijebu Ode on Monday.
The group condemned what it described as manipulation of internal party processes and warned that such actions undermining due process would be challenged.
Speaking to journalists at Asoludero Court in Sagamu, retired General Olumuyiwa Okunowo, spokesperson for the group, said organisers were within their rights to hold meetings but should not disguise a partisan gathering as an official party consensus process.
He alleged that some qualified members were turned away with claims that the event was a “DA show,” meant only for the governor’s loyalists.
“We do not deny them their right to hold their own show, but they should have been clear rather than using the party platform to present a premeditated outcome,” he said.
Okunowo also raised concerns over what he described as heavy security deployment around Daniel’s residence, questioning the rationale behind the presence of armed personnel in the area.
He maintained that the group remained committed to democratic principles and expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu, as party leader, would ensure fairness and justice within the APC.
Other members of the group insisted that true consensus must involve voluntary agreement among all aspirants, warning that anything short of that process would be invalid.

A former local government chairman, Tayo Onayemi, said consensus could not be declared without the formal participation and consent of all aspirants, while former commissioner Kola Onadipe argued that proper party procedures were not followed.
In response, the APC Publicity Secretary in Ogun State, Femi Nuberu, dismissed the allegations, insisting that the meeting was duly constituted and its resolutions legitimate.
He maintained that the senatorial party structure conducted the meeting and took valid decisions on behalf of the zone, describing the rejection of its outcome as uninformed.
Nuberu added that there was no official complaint regarding Daniel being denied access to the venue and urged aggrieved members to follow proper party channels to seek redress.
