The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has reaffirmed its statutory mandate as the sole agency responsible for the management and regulation of all forms of parking within Lagos State.

‎The General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu made this known while addressing recent developments concerning a purported jurisdictional claim over parking management by an alleged local government official.

Reacting to an unauthorised communication reportedly issued by the council’sparking manager, Mrs. Adelabu described the letter particularly as it was not conveyed on official council letterhead as misleading, invalid, and a clear misrepresentation of the legal framework governing parking operations in Lagos State.

‎She emphasised that LASPA remains the only government agency legally empowered to oversee parking across the State, in line with laws enacted by the Lagos State House of Assembly and supported by a collaborative framework involving all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.

Mrs. Adelabu, urged all registered car park operators and members of the public to disregard such unauthorised communications, stressing that any attempt to intimidate or misdirect duly licensed operators will not be tolerated.

‎She further cautioned the individuals responsible to desist from such actions or face appropriate legal consequences.

Reiterating LASPA’s mandate, she explained that the Authority was established to streamline parking administration, enhance traffic flow, and deliver efficient, technology-driven parking management for residents and motorists across Lagos State.

‎She also clarified that any claim suggesting that local government authorities retain control over parking management is not only inaccurate but constitutes a direct violation of the extant laws guiding parking regulation in the State.

According to her, all parking-related agreements and operations must be conducted strictly through LASPA, which works in partnership with certified and duly registered parking operators under its regulatory framework.

‎Mrs. Adelabu noted that the actions of the council’s parking manager amount to unlawful interference in a system designed to promote order, transparency, and public convenience.

‎She concluded by affirming that LASPA will not hesitate to take decisive legal action against any individual or group seeking to undermine or disrupt its legally established authority.
