HOTJIST NEWS
The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced it will start medical checks for 3,000 couples who are planning to get married in a big wedding event in the state.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Sheikh Mujahedeen Aminudeen, shared this information in a phone conversation with the media on Friday.
He explained that the process will include checking 1,500 men and 1,500 women who are part of the program.
He said the tests are meant to check the health of the couples before they get married.
He added that the tests would include HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype and drug screening.
Aminudeen explained that the mass wedding initiative is being organised by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Yusuf.
He said the beneficiaries, largely drawn from less-privileged backgrounds, include widows, divorcees and spinsters.
The deputy commander-general mentioned that the state government will help the couples by giving them money for the dowry and other things.
He said, “Each bride should get a bed with a mattress and pillows, plus N100,000 in cash to start her own business.
She will also receive N100,000 from the government as dowry.“
Aminudeen also said that taking part in the medical check–up is required, and anyone who doesn’t do it will not be allowed to take part in the wedding.
The big wedding program was started when Rabiu, Musa Kwankwaso was the governor of Kano State.
It was meant to help women who are in tough situations and reduce problems in the community.
