The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a suspected kidnapper and armed robber and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 63 rounds of live ammunition from him.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Warri by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team acted on credible intelligence and arrested one Shehu Malami, aged 45, on April 29, 2026, at Ogor Market in Ughelli.

The suspect reportedly led officers to his hideout at Agbarha-Otor, where the AK-47 rifle and ammunition were recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was allegedly part of a kidnapping gang responsible for terrorising Ughelli, Agbarho, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding areas in the state.

The police said investigations into the second incident are continuing, with intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements in the state.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, assuring that the identities of informants would be protected.
