SANWO-OLU URGES BADAGRY RESIDENTS TO PRESERVE LATE AKRAN’S LEGACY

Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged the people of Badagry to preserve and build on the legacy of the late Akran of Badagry, De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I, describing him as a unifying and principled traditional ruler.
The governor made the appeal on Saturday during a funeral thanksgiving service held in his honour at Freeman Memorial Methodist Cathedral in Badagry.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described the late monarch as a symbol of unity, fairness, and stability who maintained an open and accessible palace throughout his reign.

He said the late Akran served as a steady and respected voice within the Council of Obas and Chiefs, noting that his wisdom and leadership earned him widespread admiration.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged residents not to be overwhelmed by grief but to honour the late king by preserving Badagry’s cultural heritage, traditions, and historical monuments, while passing these values on to future generations.
He also sympathised with the royal family and the people of Badagry, describing the monarch as a father figure whose reign of 48 years brought peace, dignity, and progress to the kingdom.
Following the service, the governor performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I Cultural Park, aimed at preserving the legacy and history of the late monarch.
The funeral service was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents of Badagry, while the sermon emphasized the importance of living a purposeful life and preparing for eternity.
