ISLAMIC CLERIC TESTIFIES AGAINST ALLEGED COUP PLOTTERS, SAYS HE WARNED THEM IT WOULD FAIL

An Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abdulkadir Sani, has told a Federal High Court in Abuja that he had warned alleged coup plotters that their plan to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration would fail, even though he received money from them for prayers.
The statement was made on Monday, May 11, during the ongoing trial of the alleged coup suspects in Abuja.
In a video-recorded testimony played in court, the Kaduna-based cleric said he was contacted through an intermediary known as Sanda to provide spiritual assistance for the alleged plot.
He told investigators that after conducting prayers, he advised the group that their plan would collapse, as some members would eventually betray others.
“I told them the plan would fail because they would be exposed from within,” he was quoted as saying.
Sheikh Sani acknowledged receiving money but maintained that it was given strictly for prayers and charitable purposes, not to support any coup attempt. “I did not collect money for a coup. The money was for prayers,” he said.
He further stated that names of alleged participants were submitted to him for inclusion in prayers and have since been presented in court.
