Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed shock and sadness over the reported death of popular actor Alex Ekubo, revealing that she had been trying unsuccessfully to reach him before his passing.
The news of Ekubo’s death at the age of 40 sent shockwaves across the Nigerian entertainment industry on Tuesday after reports emerged that the actor succumbed to cancer-related complications.
Reacting to the development on her X handle, Henshaw initially shared a brief but emotional post reflecting her disbelief.
“I just heard a terrible news! Father Lord plsssss,” she wrote.
Responding to a fan who asked if she was aware of how long the actor had been ill, the actress disclosed that she had no idea about the seriousness of his condition.
“I had no idea. Been sending chats no response…I just decided to give him some breathing space not knowing,” Henshaw replied.
The conversation later shifted to the devastating impact of cancer after an X user identified as the_beardedsina lamented the increasing number of lives lost to the disease.
“Cancer has really taken so many lives. One day, we will have a total cure. Rest in peace, Alexx Ekubo,” the user wrote.
Replying to the comment, Henshaw said, “I hope it comes really quick! It is needed urgently.”
Ekubo’s passing was reportedly confirmed on Tuesday by colleagues and associates within the Nollywood industry, triggering an outpouring of tributes from fans and celebrities.
Among those who paid tribute was actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, who revealed that she also made efforts to reconnect with the late actor before his death.
“Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex,” Akindele wrote on her Instagram story.
