A United States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., has said representatives of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar held discussions with aides of US Congressman Riley Moore on issues relating to election integrity and security challenges in Nigeria.

The firm disclosed this in a statement posted on its X handle on Thursday, saying the meeting focused on the need to ensure credible elections and protect Nigerians’ right to freely choose their leaders.

According to the statement, both sides discussed “the importance of protecting every Nigerian’s right to a free and fair election” as well as broader concerns around insecurity in the country.

It described the engagement as productive, noting that discussions also centred on election integrity, peace, and long-term stability in Nigeria.

The firm stated that it would continue engaging US political stakeholders, including members of the Trump administration, on issues affecting Nigeria’s democratic process and security situation.

It also claimed that efforts were ongoing to ensure Nigerians can “live and send their children to school without fear of being kidnapped or murdered,” while warning that developments in Nigeria were being closely monitored by US stakeholders.

However, the statement did not provide details of where the meeting held or the specific individuals who represented either Atiku Abubakar or Congressman Moore.

The development comes amid earlier statements by the lobbying firm criticising Nigeria’s electoral system and raising concerns about insecurity and governance under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The firm is reportedly operating under a $1.2 million contract signed in March 2026 to support Atiku Abubakar’s international engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
