BOY HIT BY STRAY BULLET DURING NDLEA RAID IN CROSS RIVER COMMUNITY

A young boy has been injured by a stray bullet during a chaotic confrontation that followed an operation by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The NDLEA raid reportedly led to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of illicit substances.
Sources said tension escalated when a mob allegedly attacked the operatives during the operation, triggering panic and forcing residents to flee for safety as gunshots were heard.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the situation quickly degenerated into confusion.
According to the witness, the boy was later discovered on the ground after the confrontation and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the NDLEA Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, Sebastian Lebo, said the operatives were attacked during the operation but still succeeded in arresting the suspects and recovering exhibits.
He explained that the injured boy is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively.
Lebo added that despite the attack, the operation was successfully concluded and the suspects remain in custody.
