POLICE LAUNCH INVESTIGATION AFTER NURSING STUDENT IS BEHEADED IN IMO

Pandemonium broke out at the College of Nursing, Umulogho, in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State after suspected assailants beheaded a female student, identified as Wendy Achumba.
The victim, said to have completed her midwifery programme and currently undergoing post-basic training, was killed in her apartment on Thursday.
Reports indicate that she hailed from Isiala Ngwa in Abia State.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said operatives have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
He stated that the Command is aware of the tragic killing of the student, whose body was found in her private off-campus residence.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer and operatives promptly visited the scene for assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited in the morgue.
Okoye added that investigations have commenced to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring those responsible to justice, noting that one suspect has already been arrested and is undergoing preliminary interrogation.
He assured residents and students that the situation is under control and urged calm while efforts continue to apprehend all involved.
