Niger Tornadoes’ nine-game unbeaten run was put to an end, as MFM FC
cruised to a 3-0 win in a Matchday 20 game of the 2018 Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday.
The home team took control of the game in the early minutes as, Sikiru
Olatunbosun fired a shot past Terkaa Melai in goal for Tornadoes after
combining well with Onuwa Chukwuka from a corner kick, to put the
Olukoya Boys ahead.
MFM FC nearly got the second goal in the 17th minute with a chance
from Waheed Adebayo, but his shot was calmly saved by Melai.
Olatunbosun soon completed his brace after slotting home a rebound
from Lawal Oriyomi’s powerful shot from the edge of the box and the
Niger Tornadoes defence were found wanting.
Second half substitute, Chijioke Akuneto completed the scoring after
firing a shot into the far corner from a Waheed Adebayo assist on a
counter attack.
Meanwhile, a second half own goal by defender Kehinde Adeyemi gave
leaders Lobi Stars a 1-0 home win over Sunshine Stars in a Matchday 20
fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday
in Makurdi.
The victory also helped Lobi extend their lead at the top of the NPFL
log by five points ahead of second-placed Kano Pillars who played out
a 1-1 draw at Heartland on same day.
Elsewhere, Kwara United put life into their quest of keeping their
status in the NPFL for another season with a 2-1 defeat of Yobe Desert
Stars at the Kwara State Sports Stadium, Ilorin on Sunday.
It was a match of many wild tackles that had an edge about it such
that it threatened in bits to boil over. But referee Promise Amadi
conducted proceedings with the needed calmness and authority to ensure
it was Kwara United’s 2-1 win over Yobe Desert Stars that will grab
the headlines.
