MCFARLANE BACKS CHELSEA TO BOUNCE BACK AFTER ROSENIOR EXIT
Agency Report

Interim manager Calum McFarlane says there is still “a lot of belief” within Chelsea that they can revive their season following a poor run of form that led to the dismissal of Liam Rosenior.
The Stamford Bridge side face Leeds United in an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, seeking to salvage their campaign after five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring a goal.
A heavy 3-0 loss to Brighton on Tuesday proved decisive, bringing Rosenior’s 106-day tenure to an abrupt end.
McFarlane, who stepped in following the departure of Enzo Maresca earlier in the year, addressed the media on Friday for the first time since the managerial change.
When questioned about reported tensions between players and the former coach, McFarlane declined to comment directly, saying, “Who’s to say? It’s not anything I would comment on,” and noted there had been no formal meeting to address the issue.
Despite a run of seven defeats in eight matches, the interim boss insisted the squad still has the quality to turn things around.
“I know it’s been tough recently, but we’ve had some good performances against top sides. There’s a lot of talent in the squad, and there’s still belief we can get our season back on track,” he said.
McFarlane also confirmed a major injury setback, revealing that Brazilian winger Estevao will miss the remainder of the domestic season.
“Estevao, unfortunately, won’t play for us this season. He’ll be out for a while. It’s really unfortunate, especially for someone so young and talented, but we’ll support him,” he added.
With their league form faltering, Chelsea will now look to the FA Cup as a chance to restore confidence and end the season on a positive note.
