SEE HOW MESSI REACTS AFTER BEING SNUBBED FROM BALLON D’OR TOP THREE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 11 YEARS

Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

Lionel Messi took to Instagram moments after learning he hadn’t finished in the top three for the Ballon d’Or for the first time since 2007.

The Argentine wasn’t one of the favourites to win the award, but he is still widely considered to be one of the best – if not the best – players in the world.

The fact that he finished a lowly fifth this year shocked many people who tuned into the action in Paris on Monday night. His rival Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile finished second.

People were also surprised to see that Messi had snubbed turning up to the awards ceremony – alongside Ronaldo.

But that doesn’t mean to say the Barcelona legend wasn’t active on social media around the time of the announcement of this year’s winner: Luka Modric.

Just moments after the World Cup finalist and Champions League winner lifted the trophy Messi posted a picture of what he was doing to Instagram Story.

The picture showed him resting at home alongside his children, seemingly without a care in the world.
