Some bandits have invaded the Igbosi area of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, destroying two buildings and abducting a nine-year-old boy in a midnight attack on Friday.
The assailants were said to have stormed the community at about 1:30 a.m., shooting sporadically to scare residents and force them to flee their homes. During the attack, two houses were reportedly destroyed before the gunmen whisked away the victim, identified as Oluwatobi, the son of a pastor, Isaac Olaosebikan.
A source in the community said residents abandoned their homes and ran into neighbouring communities for safety as the attackers operated freely.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and intensified efforts to rescue the victim.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi, personnel of the police and the Amotekun Corps have been deployed to comb surrounding forests and likely escape routes in search of the abducted child.
He said the command received reports of the attack in the early hours of Friday, noting that the invasion caused widespread panic among residents.
Security operatives have since commenced a coordinated search-and-rescue operation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has also directed tactical and intelligence units to intensify efforts toward securing the victim’s release unhurt and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Authorities added that the police are working alongside other security agencies and local vigilante groups to track down the attackers.
