BARCELONA COMPLETE £8.6M SIGNING OF ARSENAL STRIKER GABRIEL JESUS

Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for a reported fee of £8.6m (€10m), with the forward signing a contract that will keep him at the Spanish club until June 2029, BBC Sport reported on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old had attracted interest from Napoli but completed his medical with Barcelona on Monday before finalising the move.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and made 123 appearances for the North London club, scoring 32 goals and providing 22 assists.

However, his position in Mikel Arteta’s plans became less secure following increased competition for places from Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres.

Jesus becomes Barcelona’s third signing from a Premier League club this summer as the La Liga champions continue to strengthen their squad.

He joins other new arrivals, including Karim Adeyemi, Jesse Bisiwu, Joao Cancelo and Dominik Livaković.

“Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the blaugranes. The Brazilian striker signs on as a Culer for three seasons,” Barcelona said in an official statement on Tuesday.

Jesus began his professional career in Brazil with Palmeiras before earning a move to Manchester City in 2016 following a series of impressive performances.

During his six years at City, he made 236 appearances, scoring 95 goals and registering 45 assists. He won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields with the club.

After moving to Arsenal in July 2022, Jesus went on to make 123 appearances, scoring 32 goals and assisting 22 times. His progress was interrupted by an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2025, which kept him out of action until December.

He subsequently played a role in Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title triumph, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.

At international level, Jesus represented Brazil at youth level before helping the country win Olympic gold at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, where he scored three goals.

He made his senior international debut in September 2016 and featured for Brazil at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.

Jesus was also part of Brazil’s squad that won the 2019 Copa América and featured in the 2021 edition of the tournament.
