BAUCHI DECLARES MONDAY WORK-FREE DAY FOR LG ELECTION

The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day across the state to allow civil servants and other eligible residents to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections.

The declaration applies to workers at the local, state and federal levels serving in Bauchi, as well as employees in the banking sector.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.

According to Gidado, the measure followed the decision by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct elections into the state’s Local Government Councils on Monday.

He said the work-free day was intended to give eligible citizens enough opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote and participate in the grassroots democratic process without being constrained by official duties.

However, workers providing essential services are exempted from the declaration.

The government urged residents to come out peacefully and exercise their franchise in accordance with the law, while calling on voters to maintain responsible conduct before, during and after the elections.

Gidado assured residents that relevant authorities would work to provide a peaceful and orderly environment for the polls, urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies and electoral officials.

The state government also wished residents a peaceful and successful Local Government Council election.
