NSCDC STRENGTHENS PRIVATE SECURITY SECTOR, GRADUATES 260 OPERATIVES

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has graduated 260 private security operatives from 40 companies after a five-day refresher training programme in Abuja.
The training, held from August 10 to 14 at the newly inaugurated FCT Command Training Ground, focused on modern security management and emerging security challenges.
Speaking at the passing-out parade on Friday, the FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, said the programme was designed to equip private security personnel with the skills required to operate effectively in an increasingly complex and technology-driven environment.

Odumosu said private security operatives must be able to identify threats, detect suspicious behaviour, manage access, communicate effectively, respond to emergencies, protect critical facilities and work closely with relevant security agencies.
He noted that criminals were constantly developing new methods and exploiting security gaps in communities, businesses and public institutions.
According to him, private security personnel play a strategic role in the country’s security architecture, often serving as the first line of early warning in many environments.
The commandant urged the graduates to remain vigilant and professional, stressing that their decisions and actions could either strengthen or undermine security efforts across the FCT.
He also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between government security agencies and private security companies, particularly because the FCT hosts critical national assets, diplomatic missions and other strategic installations.
Odumosu called on private security firms to prioritise the welfare, equipment, working conditions and continuous training of their personnel.
He stressed that companies could not expect professionalism from security guards while neglecting their welfare and working environment.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria, FCT Zone, Chief Lucky Ojealaro, commended the NSCDC for promoting professionalism and global best practices in the private security sector.
Ojealaro described the NSCDC as a “big brother” to the association and expressed confidence that the updated training curriculum would improve security operations across the FCT.
He congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply the knowledge gained during the programme in their respective workplaces to contribute to a safer society.
